20 years ago (1990)

When Todd Revenig finished an award-winning junior season with the Mankato State baseball team last spring, he attracted the attention of the Oakland A's, reigning world champions. They signed Revenig and sent him to their Class A Southern Oregon team.

30 years ago (1980)

The Brainerd City Council asked the public last night for ideas on how to spend $1.4 million. They was no shortage of suggestions. The city may receive the money under a Community Development Block Grant, which the council is now seeking.

40 years ago (1970)

The Brainerd State Junior College is still taking applications for admission to the fall quarter, said president J.E. Chalberg. He said 517 students had registered as of June 26, and more than 100 applications have come in since then.

60 years ago (1950)

Following a complaint to police of wild ducks causing a disturbance in a housewife's backyard, nine ducklings were in the custody of Walt Gulbrandson of the state fish and game department. Mrs. George Dennis said the ducks and her dogs were squabbling.

80 years ago (1930)

Thieves were successful in a robbery attempt they failed at earlier. The first try at stealing a car from Walt Tyrholm's used car lot last week failed when they couldn't connect the ignition wires. They returned Monday, connected the wires and escaped in the same car.

100 years ago (1910)

The superintendent of the Northwest Paper mill at the dam north of the city, said water in the Mississippi was very low but did not cause them a problem. The city pump station says if the water drops another foot there will not be enough water to fight a big fire.
