Leech Lake Arts League art show and sale scheduled in August

Posted: Thursday, July 29, 2010

WALKER - The Leech Lake Arts League will hold their annual Northern Reflections art show and sale Aug. 5-7 at Walker Hackensack Akeley School.

The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 5-6 and 10a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7.

The exhibit will include work from 17 area artists, who use a variety of media and subjects.

Biddie Christenson will be the featured artist. Christenson is a St. Olaf graduate, with majors in biology and art. Her works are currently shown at the Artists' Mall in Walker, and the Oncology Clinic in Bemidji. She is a versatile painter, with emphasis on flowers and landscapes. But Christenson's love for crows and their habits have led her to her current specialty, Cora and Calvin. It started when her husband Lee suggested she paint a crow with a nasturtium in her mouth. When her daughter demanded a crow in tennis shoes, she decided to start a collection of crow pictures. Her latest, "Calvin the Fisherman," completes a collection of eight. Her Cora and Calvin pictures will be on display at the art show.

The show also will include an exhibit of paintings from each of the artists with the theme Artist Choice. The Mary Ann Norton Scholarship Fund will have a painting for raffle with all proceeds towards the scholarship program. In addition to original works of art, prints and cards will be available for purchase.

The Leech Lake Arts League meets Thursdays in Walker at the American Legion. New members are welcome. For more information contact Julie at (218) 547-0893.
