MAO Scramble Saturday at Cragun's

Friends and family of Mark Ocel, Cragun's Resort and Camp Confidence will present the fifth annual MAO Scramble Saturday at Cragun's Legacy Dutch Course.

The 4-person, 18-hole scramble, conducted in memory of Mark Anthony Ocel, will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a shotgun start.

There are two levels of participation.

The comp flight is $129 per player and the fun flight is $79 per player with $25 per entry going to Camp Confidence. Reception, awards banquet and dinner afterward are included in the entry fee, as well as cart and practice range.

About $3,600 in prize money will be awarded in the comp flight. First place in low net and first in low gross are both worth $1,200. Second place in low net and second in low gross are both worth $600. Prize money may increase or decrease depending on number of entrants.

Fun flight prizes will be awarded to first- and last-place teams and to two other random teams.

Ten people, four through a random drawing and six via a chipping contest, will have an opportunity to attempt a hole in one worth $100,000. Shots will be taken from 165 yards out from Dutch's ninth green following the tournament.

Before the tournament contestants may participate in the Von Hanson Meat Market long drive/accuracy contest. The winning long drive will receive a $500 Von Hanson gift card. First place in drive accuracy will receive a prize TBA.

Sauer runner-up, Israelson 15th in State Open

Jon Sauer, an amateur from Walker, tied for second and Bill Israelson of Staples tied for 15th in the Minnesota State Open, which ended Sunday at Hastings Country Club.

Brett Swedberg, pro at Alexandria Country Club, fired a 3-under-par 207 to win the title and $10,000.

Mike Barge, pro at Hazeltine National, shot 2-under-par 208 to tie for second and earned $6,000. Sauer, playing out of Tianna Country Club, shot 71-67-70- 208.

Israelson, pro at the Vintage, shot 71-72-71-214 to finish 4-over-par and took home $800.

Curtis Carlson, an amateur playing out of The Classic at Madden's, tied for 64th with 20-over-par 79-70-81-230.

Holes in one

• Robert Sedlacek, Boca Raton, Fla., aced No. 15 on Dutch's course at the Legacy at Cragun's July 24. He used a 5-iron on the 170-yard hole.

• Richard Haynes, Nisswa, aced the 131-yard fifth hole on the Marsh course at Grand View Lodge July 23 using a 7-iron.

• Tommy Bice, Brainerd, aced the 157-yard No. 17, with a 21-degree hybrid club, July 22 at Eagles Landing.

• Peter Evans, Newport Coast, Calif., shot a hole in one on the 146-yard ninth hole on the Lakes course at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge July 22 with a 9-iron.
