WAUSAU, Wis. - The Wisconsin Woodchucks smacked four doubles and knocked off the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, 6-1 Tuesday night to complete a series sweep in front of 3,486 fans at Athletic Park.
It was Brainerd's third straight loss and dropped its record in the last 10 games to 3-7.
The Lunkers started the game with a base hit by Stephen Wickens (Florida Gulf Coast) but stranded Wickens on second. Brainerd's offense went down quietly in the next two innings.
Wisconsin sent nine men to the plate in the fifth, scoring three runs on a double, single, two hit batsmen and an error.
One inning later, the Woodchucks plated three more runs on two doubles, two singles and a pair of sacrifices.
The Lunkers scored their only run in the seventh as Shon Roe (Loyola Marymount) brought home Mike Gedman (UMass).
Gedman had two of the Lunkers' four hits and a run scored. Starter Korie Walkley (Cal State-Bakersfield) allowed six hits in five innings, gave up five runs and struck out three.
The Lunkers return to Mills Field at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday to face the Battle Creek Bombers. Former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Matt Blair will throw out the first pitch, sign autographs and meet and greet fans.
