Baxter team heading to regional

The Baxter 12-U traveling baseball team will play in the Cal Ripken Midwest Plains Regional Tournament in Grand Island, Neb., this weekend.

Baxter opens the double-elimination tournament against Missouri No. 2 at 4 p.m. Friday.

Evan Brecht leads the offense in hits, RBIs and extra-base hits. Tory Miller leads the pitching staff with five wins and has 26 strikeouts with only three bases on balls in 21 innings.

Baxter is 11-4-1 overall, with a win at the Big Lake tournament and a second-place finish at St. Cloud.

The team is sponsored by Reichert Bus and Cuyuna Medical Center.
