American Legion Auxiliary

Kris Nelson, member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 255 of Brainerd was elected first vice-president for the American Legion Auxiliary, department of Minnesota for 2000-2001 at the 81st state convention in Bloomington. The following unit No. 255 members served as delegates to the convention: Shirley Schoonover, Shirley Hauck, Kathleen Zelinske, Norma Extrand, Doris Stoffel and Dolly Zitur. Unit No. 255 was awarded trophies for their outstanding work in legislation, national security, past presidents parley and poppy programs. Special awards were presented to the unit for collecting the most canceled stamps and submitting the best annual report in the home service program. Doris Stoffel also received an award for recruiting the most field service volunteers. The unit also received department president's note of service awards for home service, legislation, community service and poppy programs.

Pillow cleaning

Min-De's Fluff and Puff pillow cleaning service of Spicer will be in the area to clean, deodorize, sanitize and fluff pillows from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's, 1108 Willow Street, Brainerd. The event is sponsored by the youth. Crushed foam pillows can be cleaned and polyester pillows can be recovered. They offer new ticking of your choice, on the spot cleaning and pillows will be returned the same day.

Firearm safety class

There will be a firearm safety class from 8-11 a.m. Aug. 14-18 at the Nisswa Fire Hall. Call Nikki and 678-4118 or Bruce at 963-2380 to sign up. The first 25 to sign up are enrolled in the class. A $5 course fee will be collected on the first day of class. Range day will be conducted at Brainerd's range at a later date.

Lakes and Woods Horticultural club

The Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club will have a horticultural show from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Westside Calvary Church of Aitkin. The public is invited to attend and or exhibit. There will be a plant sale. Coffee and bars will be available.

Degree of Honor

Members will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the VFW Hall. Hostess: Gerry Winson.

Brainerd Garden Club

The Brainerd Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the Crow Wing County Fair Grounds. The annual clean up of the Hort Building will take place. Bring a sack lunch and elbow grease. Burt Knandel will present a corsage making workshop at 11:30 a.m. the same day. Brainerd Garden Club members will make corsages on Aug. 9 for fair goers. The donations will go to the Paul Bunyan Learning Center and the Northland Arboretum. For more information, call Ruth at 829-4544.

Benefit dinner for Rob Floyd and family

Rob Floyd has been diagnosed with lung and bone cancer. There will be a benefit spaghetti dinner beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leader Hall, one mile north of Leader on Hwy. 64 on the right side. There will be a raffle and an auction with auctioneer Daryl Larson. Matching funds by AAL Branch 10501.

Mission Possible

The Mission Possible Senior Club will meet at noon Wednesday at the Mission Town Hall. A potluck lunch will be followed by a Brainerd Public Library update.

WHS Class of 1955

There will be a WHS Class of 1955 reunion meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Embers.

Retired Cooks lunch

The Retired Cooks lunch will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Poncho and Lefty's.

Fort Ripley reunion

There will be a Fort Ripley reunion beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Ripley City Park. Potluck will be at 12:30 p.m. Bring a dish to pass, your own utensils and refreshments, lawn chairs, cameras, friends and memorabilia. $1 per person would be appreciated for the next reunion.

Senior dances

There will be a senior dance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Legion. Music by the Buckaneers.

DEERWOOD -- There will be a senior dance at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion. Music by Helen and Don.

Honeywell/Alliantech Systems retiree luncheon

The Honeywell/Alliantech Systems retiree luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Goose in Garrison. Make your reservation with Bobbie at 764-2833 or the Blue Goose at (320) 692-4330.
