Deerwood woman killed in collision

A 19-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday on Cass County Road 77 near Kelly's Restaurant on the west side of Gull Lake, officials said Saturday.

Maria Lee Waffensmith of Deerwood died as a result of the accident shortly before 6 p.m. Randy Fisher, Cass County sheriff, said the accident occurred on Cass County 77 near the junction of County Road 77 and Pinewood Road southwest.

Fisher said the vehicle driven by Waffensmith collided with a vehicle driven by Thomas Winn, 42, Glencoe. Winn and two passengers were transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.

Another two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 169 and left one person injured. The State Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 2:45 p.m. Friday on Highway 169, north of Garrison.

Driver Warren Tibbetts, 55, Garrison, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the Cuyuna Range Medical Center in Crosby. The other driver, Bobby Wind, 22, Onamia, had unknown injuries and was also taken to the center in Crosby.
