Albert Morris Dechaine
July 16, 1918 - July 25, 2009
Al Dechaine, 91, Brainerd, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 25, 2009. He was born July 16, 1918, in Brainerd to Peter and Alexina Dechaine. Al married Opal Mae Bollinger on Feb. 4, 1942. Al was a United States Navy WWII veteran, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brainerd and for 38 years, an employee at the Northwest Paper/Potlatch Paper Mill. Al loved fixing lawn mowers and playing checkers and cards. Dancing and music were sources of joy for Al, and he loved playing his fiddle with friends all around the Brainerd area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Alexina; his wife, Opal; two brothers, Henry (Hank) and Ernest; two sisters, Bernice and Marian; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn.
He is survived by sons, David (Helen), and Richard (Shirley); his daughter, Patricia (Darrel); grandchildren, Michelle, Andrea (Will), Jenny (Erik), Garth, Lori and Christy; and many nieces, nephews, and well-loved friends.
The family would especially like to thank Heartland Hospice for outstanding care to their father during the past several months. Nurse Mary - we love you. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Brainerd or the American Cancer Society.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd with Pastor George Buchin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Brainerd. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Post No. 1647 of Brainerd. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
