Thanks to two "curious" youngsters, a $2,000 computer stolen from the Brainerd Public Library last weekend is back where it belongs. The youngsters, on a stroll near Franklin Junior High School, came upon the computer in an unused storage building.

Sweltering temperatures and sparse rainfall the past week has taken its toll on both crops and forest land in the Brainerd area.

Under the direction of Doug McNeel, YMCA general secretary, 14 boys and two adult leaders will travel over 100 miles by canoe out of the canoe base, camp Wiljiwagon. The boys will be spending nine days and eight nights in the wilderness.
60 years ago (1945)
Many years ago when Prof. Frank W. Hanft was a teacher in the Brainerd schools, he would walk from his home on the north shore of Round Lake into Brainerd to teach. He celebrated his 75th birthday Saturday by making the same trip on foot. A distance of 12.5 miles.
80 years ago (1925)
Southern Minnesota is being favored with cheap weekend rail excursions to Chicago. A rate of $7 is being made from St. Paul to Chicago and return. Why can't the Northern Pacific run a weekend special from the Twin Cities to Brainerd?
100 years ago (1905)
It is thought that the coming fall and winter will be a good one at the Northern Pacific shops in this city. At the present, in the middle of the summer, there is enough work piled up to last several weeks.
