GRAND RAPIDS -- Scott Williams was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Fred Weiss and Nate Maaske cranked out home runs to lift the Brainerd American Legion baseball team past Grand Rapids Monday 10-5.
Kyle Holbrook was also 3-4 and Mike Germain was 2-3 with two RBI for Brainerd.
"It was a good win," said Brainerd coach Mark Germain. "A lot of kids played well and a lot of kids got in the game. We really came out and hit the ball well. It was a good tune-up for the playoffs Wednesday."
Adian Kummet grabbed the win, but pitched just two innings. He struck out one. Justin Huether pitched two innings followed by Mike Germain's two innings, where he struck out three. Aaron Jenkins pitched two innings and struck out two and Holbrook pitched the final inning.
"With the playoffs coming up, I didn't want to throw one guy the whole way," said Germain.
Brainerd plays the St. Cloud 76ers 1 p.m. Wednesday at Saber Field in the first round of the District 6, Division I Tournament. They'll play again at 7 p.m. Germain said the tentative starters are Blake Eller and Kevin Mertens.
