Mike Berg clubbed a two-run homer and Sandy Smith a single in a four-run third inning and Smith's stout relief hurling helped the Mountain Dew Pirates claim Pony Baseball League's 1981 playoff title.

30 years ago (1971)

Edith Ramp carded a 36 to win the Grandmothers' Golf Tournament at the Brainerd Country Club Sunday by one stroke over Ceil Gorman.

40 years ago (1961)

With the tourist season at its height and trade promotion plans being made here, Brainerd Business and Professional Men and their employees would do well to remember the shortage of parking space on downtown streets. Downtown Businessmen and their employees would do well to adopt a slogan to this effect. "Walk for health and better business."

60 years ago (1941)

Nate Schuety pitched another masterpiece last night in letting Texaco down with three hits as his Coca-Cola teammates slammed out 11 blows for a 7-3 victory.

80 years ago (1921)

Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Gould have returned from an automobile trip to Minneapolis. On the way down they took the Mille Lacs Lake, Princeton, Elk River route and on the way home the regular St. Cloud-Little Falls-Brainerd run.

100 years ago (1901)

Judge Holland in whittling a stick last evening cut a deep gash in his right hand. The knife slipped and the blade entered the hand just above the thumb.
