ONAMIA -- Arthur R. Franzen, 76, Onamia, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in St. Paul to Carl and Anne (Carlson) Franzen. He attended school in St. Paul. He enlisted in the Army on March 22, 1943, and was discharged Dec. 27, 1945. He married Florence Runston and the couple lived on Shakopee Lake where they owned and operated Franzen Resort for several years. She died in 1991. He worked for Grand Casino Mille Lacs in security from 1991-2000. He was a member of the Onamia Area Vets Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Ardys Sheller, Maryeville, Wash.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
His wife, a brother, Martin Franzen, and three sisters, Vera Jacobson, Evelyn Schulte and Eleanor Carr, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church of Onamia with the Rev. Lynn Broughton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, veterans section.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Onamia and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church of Onamia.
