Richfield man dies from injuries suffered in accident

STAPLES -- A 76-year-old Richfield man who was injured in a two-vehicle accident July 16 at the intersection of County Road 21 and 380th Street about five miles south of Staples died Monday at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis as a result of his injuries, the Todd County Sheriff's Department reported.
Wilbur Gerhard Gerrels, formerly of Pillager, one of the drivers involved in the accident, died. Gerrels' wife, Rosa Gerrels, 75, was a passenger in his vehicle. She was injured and transported by ambulance to the Staples hospital.
The other driver involved in the two-vehicle accident was Gary Parkos, 48, Browerville. Parkos was not reported injured.
The accident was reported at 5:50 p.m. July 16.
