MANKATO (AP) -- Church members of Centenary United Methodist Church traveled back 150 years, re-enacting the church's first service.
Revs. Dean Wolf and Pam Serdar -- dressed as if it were 1850 -- preached to a crowd of 275 people at Sibley Park on the bank of the Minnesota River.
Wolf and Serdar tried to make last weekend's service as authentic as possible, using the King James version of the Bible, rather than the updated edition.
Baptist minister Marilyn Geasswint, of Raleigh, N.C., attended the service with family she was visiting in Mankato.
"I have never seen anything as beautiful as this," Geasswint said.
The event included several baptisms in the river, afternoon games in the park and a buffet of standard 1850s food: fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
