A letter in the Open Forum questions Sen. Don Samuelson's "ability to afford a new photo" and suggests that Sen. Samuelson is "trying to deceive voters into thinking he is younger than he really is."
Using this logic should I then assume that candidate Paul Koering is attempting to "deceive" voters into thinking he is married, with children, since his campaign brochures historically have pictured him with his extended family?
New lawn law
In regard to the recent amended lawn law:
I hope our new police chief realizes the critical importance of the dangers these weeds, or should I say, seedy characters are to the citizens of Brainerd. We need to demand full police attention to this issue. Pull out all officers into immediate lawn patrol. Issue them chemical arms so they can arrest these offending charters immediately. Issue citations to the homeowners and haul them into our already overloaded courts. Never mind the people speeding, using cocaine, shoplifting, robbing stores, breaking into vehicles, drunken brawling, and so on and so forth.
Short of having these officers pull lawn patrol we must have neighborhood block week patrols set up. All citizens armed with cancer causing herbicides spraying where our children play and on occasion may put one of these plants in their mouths or at the very least, after touching, put their fingers in their mouths (Do you mean children actually do things like that?) If the land owners have a large amount of these dangerous weeds the only way to get rid of them is chemical. No one has the time to dig every weed mentioned by hand. If every citizen in Brainerd was employed by weed cops they still couldn't kill all of the mentioned weeds.
Someone needs to get some common sense here, people. Evidently no one on the council has any. Somebody please tell me that this is a joke. Does some council member have stock in a chemical company or have a friend who owns a lawn care company that uses chemicals? Ask yourselves. What is more dangerous? Weeds? Chemicals? What is more important? The $50 fine that you will charge every "criminal" who has dandelions in their front yard? (gasp) Or your children and their health? That's what it comes down to, people. Is the use of dangerous chemicals. I'd rather have the weeds.
