Cass County authorities reported Monday that the body of a man reported missing on Steamboat Lake, north of Walker, on Thursday night was recovered from the lake early Monday morning.

The victim, James G. Tomka, 48, of Des Moines, Iowa, had apparently gone out on the lake in a canoe earlier Thursday. Searchers located the swamped canoe and a paddle on the southwest shore of the lake Friday morning.

Agencies involved in the search included the Cass and Hubbard County Sheriff's offices, Lakes Area Dive Team, Itasca County Search and Rescue Squad, Minnesota State Patrol aircraft and Leech Lake Conservation Department.

An autopsy is scheduled.
