The Brainerd Fire Department responded to a garage fire that also caused damage to the home Saturday on Highway 210 East in Oak Lawn Township.
The Doug and Margaret Nelson family was renting the home at the time of the fire. No one was injured in the fire but the Red Cross is assisting the family.
The fire started in the garage and caused damage to the home, located at 15633 Highway 210 East. The fire, which destroyed the garage, caused about $30,000 in damages, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire was unknown Monday and continues to be investigated.
The fire was reported at 2:26 p.m. Monday.
Brainerd Fire Department responds to multiple calls
The Brainerd Fire Department responded to multiple calls Monday, including a cooking ventilation problem at Buffalo Wild Wings in Baxter that shut down the restaurant.
The department was called at 6:30 p.m. Monday to a fire alarm at Buffalo Wild Wings. According to the fire department, a plugged filter caused the shutdown of the air exchange system for the cookers, setting off the smoke detectors. The restaurant was evacuated and closed early. According to the fire department, the restaurant can't cook food until the system is back online after a complete cleaning.
Firefighters also responded at 4 p.m. Monday to a gas line cut due to road construction on Cedar Scenic Road in Baxter.
They were called at 5:53 p.m. Monday to a report of someone on fire in the ditch on Highway 210 near Fletcher Trucking. According to the fire department, something may have fallen off a trailer or truck that was smoldering in the ditch. A firefighter who arrived first to the scene extinguished the fire.
The department also responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 371 near Brainerd International Raceway at 6:14 p.m. Monday. No other details about the accident were available.
