WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Brainerd International Raceway is offering its fans another first this year: An All-Harley Drag Racing Association national points event July 30-31.
The Big Race II will follow the AHDRA event on Aug. 1, capping off a three-day, two-event format that will feature some of the top motorcycle drag racers in the country.
The AHDRA Can-Am Nationals presented by Donahue Harley-Davidson will lead off the weekend with qualifying on Friday and eliminations on Saturday in 14 classes of competition, including 220-mph Screamin Eagle Nitro Harleys, modified gas bikes, Pro Stocks, V-rods, street bikes and more.
Following Saturdays AHDRA eliminations, qualifying will begin in the evening for The Big Race II, which combines Harleys and import bikes in quarter-mile competition. Fans attending last years Big Race saw a world record fall by Larry Spiderman McBride.
On Sunday, the Harleys and imports will compete all day with an early round of qualifying followed by eliminations.
Screamin Eagle Nitro Harley top guns Doug Vancil (Albuquerque, N.M.), Steve Stordeur (Goshen, Ohio), Johnny Mancuso (Houston, Texas) and Mike Romine of Sturgis, Mich., are just a few of the six-second Nitro-Harley pilots expected to compete over the weekend. Its sure to be a ground-pounding show for fans to remember.
Over $100,000 in cash is up for grabs.
Last year we broke a world record during The Big Race, which was very exciting for the fans, BIR General Manager Scott Quick said. But this years event will be even bigger and better with the addition of the AHDRA National points race. Fans will be in for some incredible racing.
Presenting sponsor Donahue Harley-Davidson will kick off the excitement Thursday at the official AHDRA Nitro Party from 4-7 p.m. Fans can stop by for food, discount tickets and a sneak peak at AHDRA race bikes competing at BIR. Donahue Harley-Davidson is located at 3555 Shadowwood Drive NE in Sauk Rapids, Minn. (frontage road off Hwy 23).
AHDRA qualifying begins at BIR 9 a.m. Friday. On Saturday, AHDRA sportsman eliminations begin at 9 a.m., followed by the pros at 12:30 p.m. Big Race II qualifying is expected to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, a final round of qualifying for Big Race II is at 9 a.m., with eliminations beginning at noon.
Admission to the Can-Am Nationals Presented by Donahue Harley-Davidson and Big Race II is $50 for the weekend or $25 for single-day passes. Super Weekend passes, available for $80, include camping and entertainment all weekend. Discounts are available for children and H.O.G. members. Admission prices include access to the pits.
