Lake Shore Police Chief John Bukovich has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation of allegations relating to his duties as police chief is conducted.
Lake Shore City Attorney Steve Qualley today said Bukovich was placed on paid administrative leave for an indefinite amount of time while the Cass County Sheriff's Department considers the allegations.
Qualley declined to discuss the specifics of the allegations against Bukovich.
Because Bukovich and the sheriff's department often worked together, the sheriff's department may ask an outside agency to conduct the investigation, said Qualley.
The Lake Shore City Council placed Bukovich on paid administrative leave following a closed session July 17, said Patti McDonald, Lake Shore deputy city clerk. An acting police chief hasn't been named, said McDonald. Qualley said any further action by the city council is not expected until after the investigation is concluded.
Bukovich today declined to comment on the allegations made against him.
"It'll all come out in the wash," said Bukovich.
He has been Lake Shore's police chief for more than 20 years. His contract with the city of Lake Shore expires at the end of August.
