MINNEAPOLIS -- Rev. Eunice May Shirbroun, 86, Minneapolis, died July 14, 2000, in Minneapolis, from heart failure.
She was born May 10, 1914, in Little Pine Township to Frank J. and Edith Huff. She was educated in schools in Little Pine Township. She was called to the Christian ministry and enrolled in Miltonvale Wesleyan College in Miltonvale, Kan., where she earned a bachelor's degree in theology in 1936. In that same year, she was ordained as an elder in the Iowa-Minnesota Conference of the Wesleyan Church and appointed to her first pastorate at Orange Center Church near Coon Rapids, Iowa. She married George Shirbroun Jan. 19, 1938, in Audubon County, Iowa. Besides serving pastorates in several churches in Iowa and Kansas, she served as Dean of Women in Miltonvale Wesleyan College from 1954-1957, with The Navigators organization and on the staff of St. Paul Bible (Crown) College in St. Bonifacius. She also ministered from time to time as a traveling evangelist and in her retirement served as minister of visitation at the E.R. Dodd Memorial Wesleyan Church in her hometown of Emily as well as supply pastor in several churches in the Emily area. She had for several years divided her time between her home in Emily and a retirement community in Brooksville, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter Mary Ann Hillen of Burnsville, Minnesota; two sons, G. Franklin Shirbroun, Glendora, Calif., and John Shirbroun, Kokomo, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Stacy Huff, and a sister, Lois Hermann, died earlier.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at the E.R. Dodd Memorial Wesleyan Church of Emily.
