20 years ago (1990)

Two men wearing red bandanas over their faces entered the Green Roof Store, six miles south of Emily, forced customers to the back of the store and threatened a store owner at gunpoint until she gave them the money from the cash register drawer.

30 years ago (1980)

Brainerd's population is down by 3.3 percent, or 385 people, from 10 years ago, according to preliminary census figures. According to a report to the city council, Brainerd's population has dropped from 11,667 in 1970 to 11,282 this year.

40 years ago (1970)

(Photo) Fire completely destroyed this houseboat owned by C.A. Close of 13th Avenue NE last evening. The boat was anchored at Rice Lake when the fire broke out. Firemen are shown dousing what remains of the smoldering timbers.

60 years ago (1950)

(Adv.) At the Paramount Theatre it's the big musical "Annie Get Your Gun," with Betty Hutton and Howard Keel. Showing at the Brainerd Theater see Rex Allen in "The Arizona Cowboy" and Robert Ryan and Laraine Day in "The Woman on Pier 13."

80 years ago (1930)

Plans are being made for the concentration of 91 units at the new guard camp north of Little Falls in 1932. This means approximately 24,000 men, bringing together for the first time the entire military forces of the 7th Corps area, a total of five states.

100 years ago (1910)

The short electrical storm at 11 o'clock this morning struck the M.K. Swartz residence on Bluff Avenue, tearing away siding on the outside and sashing on the inside, breaking several windows an scaring the family members present.
