20 years ago (1989)

Four military veterans were named to honorary positions in the 194th Cavalry Regiment recently by Brig. Gen. Gene Andreotti. Honored were Carl Erickson, colonel; Carl Johnson, adjutant; Dean Bordwell, sergeant major; and Jim Klang, historian.

30 years ago (1979)

It's strawberry season again and people are picking them like crazy. During the month-long season strawberry lovers have been flocking to Jim's Berry Farm and Pik Mor Strawberries, both located just south of Brainerd on Highway 371.

40 years ago (1969)

The salary issue may have been resolved but the Brainerd School District and teachers may still end up in district court over the form of the contract to be used. Teachers want the old form while the board wants one used by the state school boards' association.

60 years ago (1949)

80 years ago (1929)

The western film star Jack Hoxie, his horse "Scout, dog "Bunk" and six Arabian horses will appear in Brainerd August 3 as part of the 101 Ranch wild west show. Hoxie has starred in "Fighting Fury" and "Sign of the Cactus" among many other screen hits.

100 years ago (1909)

The park board has let the contract for a system of waterworks and sewer connections in Gregory Park. In the near future the park board will let a contract for a fountain in the center of the park.
