The zig-zag detour through Brainerd's northeast neighborhood was history as of Wednesday as the Crow Wing County Highway Department worked on the finishing touches of the Mill Avenue improvements.
The completion comes two months ahead of schedule, according to a statement from the highway department.
Officials earlier Tuesday expected the existing detours would be removed and Mill Avenue would be open to traffic on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Crews were working on final cleanup, sign installation and pavement marking on Tuesday.
Bituminous paving operations on Mill Avenue from N Street South to Highway 210 were completed Friday, highway department officials said. Since June 9, traffic in this area has been detoured on residential streets.
Highway department officials said there would still be minor work taking place on side streets.
Questions regarding the project may be directed to the Crow Wing County Highway Department at 824-1110.
