20 years ago (1990)

Two Brainerd athletes participated in USA Hockey development camps this month for select 16 and 17-year-olds. Ryan Liebel was invited to the Select 16 camp, and Keith Bartholomaus to the elite goaltender camp in Colorado Springs.

30 years ago (1980)

Crow Wing County's lingering dispute with the Highway 6 construction project may be over. Assistant County Attorney Brad Gardner informed the board of commissioners that a compromise was reached with Richard Andolshek of the Crosslake IGA store.

40 years ago (1970)br>

Fire gutted the Gibson's Discount Store on S. 6th Street early this morning and damaged the entire Iron Exchange Building to the point it may have to be torn down. About 20 guests of the New Brainerd Hotel were evacuated safely by police officers.

60 years ago (1950)

Members of the Ladies Drum and Bugle corps were forced to flee a burning bus on their trip to participate in the Aquatennial Parade. The corps members fled the bus without injuries and suffered the minimum loss of one drum.

80 years ago (1930)

After considerable deliberation last night, the board of education selected William Dammonn of Albert Lea as the new coach of the Brainerd schools. Dammonn has had a fine record as coach for Albert Lea schools.

100 years ago (1910)

Lester Graham, of South Broadway, has discovered a fly which has a penchant for killing potato bugs. The small, six-legged fly with spotted wings, attacks the bugs before they have grown their armor-like sheaths. Two specimens have been sent to the university.
