Harvey Shew's wish is coming true. Shew, the former Brainerd high school football coach and junior high principal who passed away yesterday, always wanted to be remembered as a man who helped his students. Many today said he did just that.

Miss Bertha Benson, Brainerd, told police that four men held her captive in the Rustic Bar while they cleaned out the cash registers. Miss Benson, a cleaning woman, entered the bar at 5:25 a.m. to find the thieves already there.

The Moose Club can paste another clipping in its shut-out victory scrapbook after 10-0 win over Bye's Clothing in the City Softball League. Bob Davis pitched a two-hitter and hit his third homerun in three games to lead the Moose.
80 years ago (1929)
The Brainerd Air Meet on Saturday and Sunday scored an immense hit with the 18,000 people in attendance, viewing 24 planes in operation. Speed Holman flew from Minneapolis in 40 minutes and roared over the field upside down at a height of 100 feet.
100 years ago (1909)
The remains of Alden O. Bowers, who was drowned in the Mississippi last September, were buried in Evergreen Cemetery yesterday. The remains were embalmed by Loney & Dean and were as natural at time of burial as when placed in the vault.
