Attempted armed robbery of taxi driver investigated

Posted: Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Brainerd police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a Brainerd Area Taxi driver at 12:27 a.m. Monday on the 500 block of Northwest Fourth Street.

The driver told police that two men in his taxi demanded all the money the driver had, with one man threatening that he had a gun. When the driver refused, the men fled the taxi on foot.

No arrests have been made. Brainerd Police Sgt. Mike Bestul said investigators are checking several possible leads, including surveillance video from the area of Northwest Fourth Street. He said there was little information available concerning the suspects.

"We consider it an active investigation until we can prove otherwise," Bestul said. "There's no reason to doubt this didn't happen."

No money was taken and no injuries were reported, Bestul said. The Baxter Police Department assisted.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Brainerd Police Department at 829-2805.
