The second Brainerd Lakes Downhill Drags Soap Box Derby race of the season will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brainerd Area Civic Center parking lot.
Age categories are Class A (6 year olds), Class B (7-8), Class C (9-10) and Class D (11-up).
Any child wishing to race one of the loaner cars may call the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department (828-2320) before Wednesday. Children will be assigned to a car at the race.
New racers must be at the civic center race track at 8:30 a.m. and take two practice runs off the starting gate to get the feel of the start and are able to drive the car. All racers must be at least 6-years-old.
All participants must be pre-registered by noon Wednesday. You may call the parks and recreation office to pre-register.
Registration fee is $5 per participant.
Jon Sauer 1-over-par after first round
INDEPENDENCE - Jon Sauer of Tianna Country Club in Walker shot 1-over-par 72 and was tied for 11th place after the first round of the Amateur Championship of the Minnesota Golf Association Monday at Windsong Farm.
Robert Bell of Pierz and Baker National and Brian Hills of Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge were tied for 37th with 4-over-75s. Joe Sauer of Tianna was tied for 83rd with a 7-over-78. Ryan Dobis of Cragun's Legacy Courses was in 154th place with a 24-over-95.
Adam Dooley of Albany Golf Club leads the tournament with a 2-under-par 69.
The event runs through Wednesday at Windsong.
Nisswa weightlifting contest Aug. 9
The 15th annual Nisswa Crazy Days Open Weightlifting Championship is scheduled at noon Aug. 9 at the Nisswa American Legion.
