Bemidji sweeps Brainerd Legion

BEMIDJI - The Brainerd American Legion baseball team was swept by Bemidji Thursday 4-3, 4-3, but still claimed the No. 1 seed for the Subdistrict tournament which will begin July 23.

In game one Brainerd held a 3-1 advantage heading into the seventh inning. Nick Anderson walked two and then gave up back-to-back singles, leading to the one-run loss.

Anderson, Bill Sather and Rhett Williamson picked up Brainerd three hits. Sather added an RBI.

Starting pitcher Ethan Branum went six innings, allowing eight hits and three runs. He struck out five.

Brainerd again jumped out to a 3-1 lead in game two, but Bemidji slowly chipped away to steal the victory.

Robbie Veith and Sather each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Johnson was 1-3 with an RBI and Josh Haberman went 1-3.

Anderson started and went 3 2-3 innings. He allowed two hits and one run. He walked three and struck out five.

Austin Schmolke picked up the loss. He went 2 2-3 innings, striking out two and walking three. He allowed five hits and three earned runs.
