ALEXANDRIA - The Brainerd Blue Thunder rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Friday's Northwoods League baseball game at two in the eighth inning only to watch the Alexandria Beetles score the game-winning run in the bottom half of the eighth for a 3-2 victory.
Xavier Scruggs hit a two-run single in the eighth to score David Wilson and Patrick Rose, who opened the inning with back-to-back walks.
Brainerd's Bryan Westphal came on to pitch the bottom of the eighth and with two outs gave up a game-winning home run to Denny Duron for the loss.
Blue Thunder starter William Blackmon went six innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. He struck out seven and walked four.
Alexandria's Victor Sanchez was 3-4 with a run scored and Doug Pickens hit a home run in the bottom of the first.
