The Baxter Eagles 13 and under traveling baseball team competed in several tournaments recently.
The Eagles played in Brainerd June 23-24, losing to Waite Park 7-5, Wayzata 10-4 and Austin 11-10.
In the Waite Park game Shane Dutton managed a straight steal of home base against the eventual tournament champs. As the pitcher delivered Dutton was in motion and slid home just after the pitch crossed the plate, scoring Baxter's second run of the outing.
Offensive highlights included Chris Femling going 3-for-5, Shane Bertram 4-for-8 and David Beilke 3-for-8.
Abby Rehberger led the team on the mound with a 3.00 earned run average and Bertram had a 3.5 ERA.
The Eagles traded their losses in Brainerd for wins in Paynesville, beating Willmar 10-0, Paynesville 8-3, and Sauk Rapids 10-9 in eight innings to claim the tournament championship.
Shane and Ryan Dutton combined for a two-hit shutout against Willmar with Shane getting the win. Shane also got the win in relief when the Eagles faced Sauk Rapids in the championship game.
Rehberger scored the winning run against Sauk Rapids in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly and a throwing error.
Pat Majka led the Eagles at the plate with a .714 batting average and was followed by Femling and Rehberger, who had .600 and .500 averages.
The Eagles' season record is 4-6.
