FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- The younger brother of Rep. Gary Condit was arrested Saturday on charges he violated his probation in a 1996 drunken driving case, authorities said.
Darrell Wayne Condit was taken into custody Saturday at 3:30 a.m. as he tried to check into the Red Carpet Inn in Dania Beach, near Fort Lauderdale. An off-duty deputy recognized Condit's van as he pulled into the parking lot.
Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman for the Broward County Sheriff's Office, confirmed Darrell Condit is the brother of the California Democrat who has been linked romantically with Chandra Levy, the former federal intern who disappeared May 1.
Darrell Condit, 49, was arrested in Monroe County in November 1996 and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana, officials said.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said she did not know how Condit violated his probation.
