20 years ago (1990)

State Sen. Gene Waldorf, a key figure in appropriations for education spending, told area school officials and legislators that he would support whatever plan they came up with for joining Brainerd's two college campuses - community and technical colleges.

30 years ago (1980)

(Photo) Singer Mac Davis, currently performing at the Celebrity Room of the Carlton House in Minneapolis, spent a two-day break fishing in the Brainerd lakes area. Guided by Kevin Koep of Nisswa Bait Shop, Davis caught a limit of northerns and was thrilled.

40 years ago (1970)

(Photo) Brainerd Braves who played roles in the 6-0 league win at Aitkin, include Don Bollum, who had two RBIs in the first; Dick Lyscio, who went 3 for 4; Dale Brown, who hit a two-run homer; and Bruce McComas, who threw a steady six-hitter.

60 years ago (1950)

Three men are hospitalized after an auto crash on County 18 east of Brainerd. They are Art Hickerson, of Hickerson & Co.; C.F. Raasch, manager of the Brainerd and Paramount Theaters; and Al Olson, owner of the Lakeside Bar. A fourth man is missing.

80 years ago (1930)

Hurling the first no-hit, no-run game of the season, mound ace Bennie Foster pitched J.C. Penney to the city diamondball championship over John M. Bye Clothing Co. Foster walked 4 and struck out 17. Penney will next play the Camp Lake Hubert College Stars.

100 years ago (1910)

The summer resort near Walker, known as North Star Camp, was raided by some of "Pussyfoot" Johnson's men the other day and all liquor and beer belonging to guests was confiscated. It is dangerous to admit you're thirsty in Indian country these days.
