Nisswa blanks Staples 18-0, earns automatic bid to playoffs

STAPLES - Brett Cloutier struck out six and was two walks and one hit batter away from a perfect game as the Nisswa Lightning starter no hit the Staples Lumberbats Sunday for an 18-0 win.

Tony Parrish went 5-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and five runs. Paul Jenkins finished 3-3 with two RBIs and Aaron Jenkins went 2-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Lightning finish the regular season 12-5-1 overall and 11-2 in the Lake and Pine League.

Nisswa earned an automatic bid into the Region 14C playoffs by winning the Lake and Pine South regular season crown. It will be the top seed in the Lake and Pine playoffs.

Morgan Shepherd was 3-3 with two RBIs and Bronson Shepherd 3-6 with a double.

Dave Berndgen finished 2-3 and Scott Kimman went 2-5 with two RBIs for Nisswa.

Nisswa knocks off Nimrod

NISSWA - Aaron Jenkins improved his individual record to 5-2 and the record of his Nisswa Lightning to 11-5-1 as he shut down Nimrod 12-2 Friday to win the South Division Championship of the Lake and Pine League.

Jenkins struck out two, walked none and allowed one run on three hits through five innings.

Tony Parrish pitched the final two innings. He allowed two hits and one unearned run.

Drew Boland provided all the offense needed with his three-run home run, but finished 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored.

Mark Germain also blasted a three-run shot, while Morgan Shepherd went 2-3 with two RBIs.
