John T. Kennedy, 66, of Brainerd, passed away yesterday. He had been a resident for 33 years and was a former teacher at Franklin Junior High. In 1978 he was unable to attend court in St. Paul so the judge brought the jury and held court in Kennedy's living room.
30 years ago (1979)
Brainerd teachers went to the polls last May to decide which of two rival groups would represent them. Yesterday the two groups met to decide whether the winner won fairly. The BEA charged the BFT with harassment, which was promptly denied.
40 years ago (1969)
The Brainerd School Board and Brainerd teachers finally arrived at a salary agreement, negotiating until 4 a.m. this morning. They ended up splitting the $97,000 that separated them when they went to court last week.
60 years ago (1949)
Fifty-two sun-tanned canoeists left Brainerd this morning for Little Falls, the next leg in the 450-mile Aquatennial Canoe Race from Bemidji to Minneapolis. Hundreds of spectators lined the Washington and Laurel Street bridges to cheer them on.
80 years ago (1929)
Near noon today the huge, super trimotored Northwest Airways passenger plane arrived at the Rosko airfield carrying Miss Margaret Anderson, Miss Minnesota, and other notables for the Brainerd Air Show. The pilot was Walter Bullock, noted flier.
100 years ago (1909)
The railroad car Washoe, the private car of J. D. Ryan, president of the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway, passed through on the way to Duluth. Mr. Ryan and family were headed to Duluth and perhaps Houghton, Michigan.
