Thunderstorms sliced across the Plains and Southeast early Thursday, while the South continued to swelter and the Northeast remained unusually cool.
Low pressure systems over the Great Lakes and off the New England coast were expected to produce scattered showers and cooler temperatures, particularly in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
A cold front slicing though the Southeast was expected to kick up showers and thunderstorms across the Deep South and Gulf Coast. Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana were forecast to be hardest hit.
