Dean M. Anderson, 83, Brainerd, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center of Brainerd.
He was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Crosby to Carl and Mathilda (Myrin) Anderson. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and obtained a bachelor's degree from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota. He married Elizabeth Haster on Oct. 19, 1941, in Crosby. He served in the Army in Italy and Africa during World War II and retired as a major from the Army Reserves. He had a private engineering and land surveying practice in Brainerd and was Crow Wing County surveyor from 1944-1985. He was a member of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers and a charter member and past president of Minnesota Land Surveyors Association. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder and deacon.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dale Anderson, Gladstone, Mo., Mark Anderson, Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Stephen Anderson, Fergus Falls; a daughter, Carol Buckhout, North St. Paul; nine grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ann Mitchell, Cary, N.C.; and three brothers, Carlton Anderson, Deerwood, Warren Anderson, Princeton, N.J., and David Anderson, Crosby.
A grandson, and a brother, Alvin, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Brainerd with Pastor Ronald Green officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery of Brainerd.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home of Brainerd and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
