Planning Commission to meet Wednesday
The Brainerd Planning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the city hall council chambers.
Volunteer training set
Hands of Hope Resource Center will be conducting a 56-hour volunteer training seminar for advocacy with victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault, child abuse and general crime beginning in September.
Male and female volunteer advocates are needed for all crime areas within Morrison and Todd counties. An optional four-hour segment will be available for those interested in volunteering in Morrison County's new visitation/safe exchange center.
After complete training, advocates will serve as on-call volunteers on the free and confidential 24-hour crisis line; provide support and understanding for victims and survivors and their families or significant others in dealing with the assault; provide information on services and resources available in the community and surrounding areas; and have the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of other ways at Hands of Hope Resource Center.
For more information or to register, call Stephanie at Hands of Hope Resource Center at 632-1657 or 1-800-296-1657 no later than Sept. 1.
E-911 project includes calls
People receiving a call from Geo-Comm about matching telephone numbers to addresses need not worry.
Geo-Comm, the St. Cloud-based firm contracted to set up the Enhanced 911 system for Crow Wing County, is making calls to confirm address and telephone numbers for the new 911 system.
GeoComm had sent out letters informing county residents of their new E-911 addresses, but some people were not notified of their new addresses.
Pat Eyestone, E-911 coordinator, said because some people use post office boxes as their addresses, some residences were not matched to the telephone numbers in the E-911 system.
Geo-Comm is also making calls to confirm that people received their new address notification in the mail.
