MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Smokers used to lighting up outside the doorways of Hennepin County buildings will have to move a little further away.
The County Commission on Wednesday passed a resolution to ban smoking within 15 yards of street level pedestrian entrances to county buildings.
Commission Chairman Randy Johnson backed the measure, saying he was tired of breathing smoke on his way to work. The restriction begins Sept. 18.
The commission did not adopt penalties for smokers who don't follow the new rules, and it remains unclear how the rules will be enforced.
