Brainerd top tourney seed

Brainerd secured the No. 1 seed in the VFW North Subdistrict District 6 baseball playoffs, which begins Monday and concludes Thursday.

The double-elimination tournamnet will be played at Don Adamson Field in Brainerd.

The top two teams will advance to the District 6 tournament July 28.

The State VFW tournament begins Aug. 7 and will be in Perham.

Brainerd's No. 1 seed gives it a first-round bye in the seven-team tournament.

No. 4 St. Cloud Red battles No. 5 Crosby-Ironton 10 a.m. Monday.

No. 3 Little Falls faces No. 6 Menahga 12:30 p.m.

In the last opening-round game No. 2 Sauk Rapids will play No. 7 Nisswa 3 p.m.

Brainerd's first game will be 10 a.m. Tuesday against the winner of St. Cloud and Crosby-Ironton.

A seven-arm rotation helped Brainerd to a 27-6 regular season record. Kyle Crocker finished the season 6-2, Joel Martin 5-0, Burrell Flanagan 5-1, Kevin Peterson 4-0, Quinn Impola 4-1, Brett Jenkins 3-1 and Jamey Quick 0-1.

Crocker also leads the team with a .587 batting average and 35 runs. He added 21 RBIs. Martin is hitting .486 with 21 runs and a team-leading 32 RBIs. Fairbanks leads the team with 18 walks and owns a .431 average to go with 26 runs and six triples. Reid Mimmack is hitting .418 and Peterson is hitting .382 with 19 RBIs.

Alex Rohde is third on the team with 22 runs and his two home runs leads Brainerd.

Fairbanks and Martin have the team's other two round trippers.

Other players on the Brainerd team are Jaron Hanson, Taylor Main, Pat Skogen, Craig McCluney, Tate Heidman, Adam Tautges and Matt Sather.
