Nisswa Garden Club

The Nisswa Garden Club meeting and luncheon will be Thursday at the Lutheran Church of the Cross. The program by Angela Carson and Jim Sherwood is titled "Evesdropping on Flower Show Judges II." The coordinators are Angela Carson and Jim Sherwood. Hosts are Janet Bernstrom, Val Austin and Evelyn Lieske. Non-members who wish to attend may call 963-7494 before today to make reservations. Cost: $8.

Moose activities

Wednesday is Bar Bingo and Basket Foods. Thursday is the Women of the Moose business meeting. Friday is fine dining and basket foods available. Bar bingo begins at 6 p.m.

Janes' open house set

Bob and Dorothy Janes will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house from 3-5 p.m. July 27 at the First Congregational Church, Fifth and Juniper, in Brainerd. The party will be hosted by their five children.

Lakes and Woods Sixth Annual Horticultural show

The Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club invites the community to participate in its Sixth Annual Horticultural Show on Saturday at Westside Calvary Church in Aitkin. The public is invited to enter. The show is open to the public to view the exhibits entered between 1-3 p.m. Plants and produce will be available for purchase and refreshments. Entries will be received at the church on Friday between 5-6:30 p.m. and from 7:30-10 a.m. the morning of the show. Pre-registration is encouraged to allow show organizers to prepare display space for exhibits.

The show schedule may be picked up at the Aitkin Chamber of Commerce, Great River Gardens or TeeMark Corporation in Aitkin. Some of the entry categories are houseplants, outdoor potted plants, cut flowers, vegetables, fruits, herbs and artistic design.

NAMI changes place and date

NAMI-Brainerd Lakes Area affiliate of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill has changed both the place and the date of their monthly meeting. This month it will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Public Library. The regular fourth Tuesday date will also be changed to the fourth Wednesdays. The place may also change when the library is unavailable. Call Keith or Martha Anderson at 218-568-4091 for verification and information.

The nationally acclaimed NAMI Family to Family course will be taught again this fall starting in early September. This is free and led by trained volunteer family members. It is designed to teach families about their loved one's mental illness and how to cope with it. Class size is limited and pre-registration is a must. Call Martha at 218-568-4091.

Chapter CJ of PEO

Chapter CJ of PEO will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home of Marlys Schaefer. Katie Burton assisting. Program: Betty Green.

American Legion dinner

The American Legion Auxiliary in Brainerd will serve a hoagie bun with beef and potato salad and dessert from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the club.

Widowed Friends

Senior dances

1 p.m. Tuesday at Motley 10 High. Music by The Hornets; 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brainerd Legion. Music by Jerry, Henry and Ed; and 1 p.m. Friday at Pequot. Music by Roman and Don.

South East Brainerd Residents' Association

The S.E.B.R.A. organization monthly meeting will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Public Library's meeting room. Topic of discussion will be the combined National Night Out and S.E.B.R.A.'s 6th annual SE Neighborhood Picnic and the Pampered Chef Co. fundraiser. Backus Lions Fly In, Drive In pancake breakfast

The Backus Lions will host a fly in, drive in pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 27 at the Backus Airport.

Lois luncheon planned
