MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The American League's victory in baseball's All-Star Game could keep Minnesota from playing its homecoming football game against Michigan State at the Metrodome on Oct. 18.
It's a long shot, with the Minnesota Twins entering the second half of the season 7 1/2 games back of Kansas City in third place in the AL Central.
But if the Twins somehow rebound and advance to the World Series, Game 1 is set for Oct. 18 at the AL team's home because of Tuesday's win by the AL in the All-Star Game.
Again, it's a long shot. But there's also a potential conflict with the Gophers' game at the Metrodome against Michigan Oct. 11, which could find the Twins in the AL championship series.
Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi has written to Major League Baseball for understanding. He said he needs a decision on where the Michigan State game will be played by Sept. 1.
