ALLIANCE, N.C. --William "Bill" Richard Rice, 72, Alliance, N.C., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002.
He was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Brainerd. He was a member of Alliance United Methodist Church. He retired as a colonel from the USMC after 28 years of service, where he served as a pilot. He served as Pamlico County manager for 18 years as a finance officer. He served as interim director of Coastal Solid Waste Management Authority and currently was on its board of directors. He was a member of Bayboro Masonic Lodge No. 331 and the New Bern Sudan Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Fonrose Johnson Rice; a son, William Mack Rice, Havelock, N.C.; a granddaughter; and two sisters, Phyllis Lundquist, Edina, and Harriet Sewell, North Pole, Alaska.
His first wife, Jean C. Rice, died earlier.
Services were today at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gaylord Lehman, the Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer and the Rev. Eric Lindblande officiating. Burial was in New Bern National Cemetery.
