Volunteer labor and bake sales revenues are funding a gazebo for Brainerd Manor residents.
The Brainerd Manor staff had many group rummage sales and bake sales profits that began to multiply. Because residents enjoy the outdoors, the Brainerd Manor staff decided a gazebo would give them greater access regardless of weather and create a shady spot for a rest area. A poster charted the progress and family member donations helped reach the project goal.
Materials were partially donated by United Building Center, Brainerd; Brainerd General Rental Center; and Hengel Ready Mix and Construction, Pillager.
Final construction was provided by volunteers Dick McFarland, David Tougas and Rawleigh Tougas, who donated time, work and knowledge to dig and lay forms, pour cement and complete final construction of the gazebo.
McFarland said he needed to credit his wife, Ida, for putting the effort together to help make sure the gazebo was completed.
The Brainerd Manor offers assisted living for its residents.
