STAPLES -- From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 17, the Central Lakes Ag Center, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Central Lakes College, University of Minnesota Extension Service and University of Minnesota Central Region Partnership, will sponsor "Showcase 2000, Exploring Air, Land and Water." The event will be at the Central Lakes Ag Center, Airport Road and County Road 2, Staples.
The Field Day will include wagon tours covering six topics: Agro Forestry, Feedlot Rules and the Impact on Central Minnesota, Disease and Root Rot in Beans, Water Quality and Nitrogen Management, Genetically Modified Organisms Issues, Horticulture/Gardening.
The keynote address "What are they doing with my plants and animals?" will be presented by Philip O. Larsen, senior associate dean at the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Service, University of Minnesota.
Larsen, author of numerous scientific and popular articles on plant pathology, has responsibility for providing administrative support for research activities in the College, including 11 departments on the St. Paul campus and six Research and Outreach Centers distributed throughout Minnesota.
MDA will conduct a free nitrate testing clinic during the day; participants are requested to bring water samples in zipped plastic bags.
A free picnic lunch will be provided.
