James Esser, Baxter, and Joshua Anderson, Brainerd, were named to the dean's list of the Institute of Technology for superior academic performance during the spring quarter in 1999.
Monique Darton, a sophomore at Brianerd High School, has been selected to compete in the International Modeling and Talent Association convention July 16-23 in New York. Darton is one of seven models by Caryn Model and Talent Center of Minneapolis. More than 5,000 candidates were interviewed at its model and talent search conducted at the Mall of America this past March.
Darton will be competing in seven categories: runway, swimwear, fashion print, television beauty, make-up, team runaway and dance. She will be performing a solo tap dance choreographered by Sue Kuhn of Music General.
Darton is a BHS varsity football cheerleader, a member of the 2000-01 competitive cheer team and has been dancing for nine years, the past three with Music General's competitive dance line. He sponsors are Lucy Franz, grandmother; Sue and Dan Kuhn, Music General; Sean and Brenda Farrell, parernts; and her extended family.
The following students were named to the dean's list for spring semester at the University of Minnesota Duluth: Christy Tertin, the daughter of Jim and Deb Tertin of Baxter; Joshua Melby, the son of Paul and Betty Melby of Brainerd; and Andrew Rangen, the son of Rodney and Valerie Rangen of Brainerd.
The following students graduated from the University of St. Thomas on May 20: Kristen Ingram, Brainerd, majoring in K-12 education; Kristen Adams, Backus, majoring in Spanish and international business; Daniel Meyer, Deerwood, majoring in business administration and marketing management; and Eric Middendorf, Verndale, majoring in Catholic studies and philosophy.
Macelle Mahala, the daughter of Robin Mahala and Joseph Zavoral of Brainerd, has been named to the dean's list for spring semester at Macalester College. Mahala will be a senior.
Trisha Cook, Brainerd, has been named to The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored at a ceremony this fall at St. Cloud State University.

Andrew Clough, the son of Robert and Sharon Clough of Baxter, has been named to the dean's list for spring semester at the University of Minnesota at Duluth.

Jonathon Fargo, the son of Rick and Jane Fargo of Brainerd, was presented the Ken Hyslop Scholarship from the University of North Dakota. Fargo was a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.
Jane Nagel, Pine River, was named to the spring dean's list at Bemidji State University.
Michael Hagen, the son of Jon and Mary Hagen of Crosslake, was awarded a $4,500 dean's scholarship from the College of Saint Benedict's/ Saint John's University for the 2000-01 academic year. Hagen is in his first year at the college.
