20 years ago (1989)

Ten former members of Sharon Rogers' All Girl Orchestra, spouses, a dancer and acrobats, will have traveled 35,000 round trip miles to attend their 12th occasional reunion since 1947. They were hosted by Yibby and Jeannie Knudsen since she was a member.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photo) Jerry Hansen, owner of BIR, displays his trophy for winning the feature race at the Uncola Bonus Nationals. Hansen started last but overcame the field to win his 20th Sports Car Club of America championship.

40 years ago (1969)

The Brainerd School Board and Brainerd teachers were back at the negotiating table after discussions with a district judge but they were still $85,000 apart. Another session is set in two days in the contentious negotiations.

60 years ago (1949)

A Brainerd man, Navy veteran and student at the Brainerd Junior College, drowned early today when he went overboard from a launch on Gull Lake reportedly trying to rescue a girl who hade either jumped or fallen overboard.

80 years ago (1929)

A stormy council session, in which all parties involved agreed that Brainerd needs better theatre facilities, ended with a council resolution that improvements to the Lyceum must begin no later than August 1 or lose their license.

100 years ago (1909)

The Mahlum Lumber Company met with a serious loss by fire when a spark from the No. 11 train touched off a blaze. Between 180,000 and 200,000 board feet of first class lumber, stored near the tracks, was destroyed.
