Crosslake sneaks by Pierz 2-1

May earn possible No. 1 seed with win

CROSSLAKE -- With a little luck the Crosslake Legion baseball team defeated Pierz 2-1 Thursday for its eighth win in a row and a possible No. 1 seed in the Subdistrict 6, Division II playoffs.

Bryan Szymanski led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single. Crosslake sacrificed him to second and he advanced to third on an error.

With runners at the corners and Jim Park at the plate, Crosslake coach Bret Sergent called a safety squeeze. It didn't work, but Szymanski returned to third base.

On the next pitch, Park flied to center field for the game-winning sacrifice fly.

Chris Johnson earned the win by pitching a complete game. He struck out five and walked one. He gave up five hits and one earned run.

Ian Dickmeyer tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when he reached on a bunt single and later scored on an error.

Pierz -- 1 5 3

Crosslake -- 2 3 0

WP -- Chris Johnson. LP -- Zach Watercott. Overall -- CL 13-3. Next game -- Crosslake in Subdistrict 6, Division II Tournament Tuesday.
