Well, it might have been fun, but the former Chicago Bears coach quashed his potential candidacy this week when he opted not to bite on the Republican Party's overtures to make him its last-minute replacement for Jack Ryan, the previous GOP candidate who stepped down after embarrassing details from his divorce proceedings were publicized.
We shouldn't be surprised anymore. After Jesse Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger proved the electorate will respond to tough-talking celebrities the world of politics is no longer the sole domain of nerdy, policy wonks with long government resumes. For better or worse, traditional politicians would be wise to regard celebrities and athletic figures as potential political rivals with instant name recognition and the ability to raise funds quickly.
Does anyone know what political party Kevin Garnett belongs to?
