The Dispatch inadvertently cut a story on Page 4A of Monday's paper about how Erik Hobie recovered his grandmother's heirloom diamond ring as he was preparing to surprise his girlfriend while ice fishing. According to the story on the Pioneer Press Web site the ring fell into the water. After they marked the ring by carefully lowering a pop can filled with stones a family friend dove down and found the ring in 30 feet of water about 20 feet from shore. The diver immediately located the pop can and combed the surrounding silt until he found the ring, about 2 feet away.
