GLENCOE (AP) -- Saving lives is getting to be a habit for State Trooper Jeff Goldsmith.
Goldsmith, a 20-year State Patrol veteran based in Hutchinson, received his fourth lifesaving award from the Minnesota State Patrol on Tuesday.
Instinct told him to respond himself when the 911 center dispatched Hutchinson police and an ambulance to help a choking 14-year-old within the city last March 22.
Goldsmith, 43, went to the home of Randy Erickson, who was choking on a wad of gum. The trooper performed the Heimlich maneuver and dislodged the gum.
"You feel good about it, of course, but any other officer would have done the same thing. I just happened to be there when I was, and was able to help," Goldsmith said.
Goldsmith received his first lifesaving award for resuscitating a man who had stopped breathing at a local restaurant on July 1, 1988.
